Soft Pretzels

Ingredients:


  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons)

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • ⅓ cup baking soda (for boiling)

  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)



Instructions:


  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  • Mix in flour and salt until fully combined. Knead on a floured surface for approximately 5 minutes until smooth.

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F. Divide the dough into eight pieces and shape each into a pretzel.

  • Boil water in a large pot; add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds before transferring them to lined baking sheets.

  • Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
