Ring in the new year long before bedtime

Happy Noon Year

“Noon” Years Eve has quickly become one of my favorite holidays.

It’s full of excitement, and all the fun can be created in just one morning with a quick trip to the dollar store.

Here are some of our favorite activities to welcome the New Year in a festive way, all before bedtime!

Photobooth

The dollar store usually has a great selection of backdrops. Tape one up, and you instantly have a festive photo booth. Let the kids take turns being the photographer, or set up a camera on a self-timer and strike some fun poses. You can also add photo booth props to make it even more on theme.

Crowns

Nothing says fancy like crowns. Add a touch of whimsy to the New Year and let your little ones start the year feeling like royalty.

Encourage the kids to dress fancy, but let them choose what that means. “Fancy” will look different for each kid, and that is part of the fun. Let them ring in the New Year wholeheartedly as themselves.

The Balloon Drop

The balloon drop is what all the excitement truly revolves around.

You can get balloons, a hand pump, and a tablecloth at the dollar store. We also found a simple decoration there that can help pull the balloons down.

Here is how to do it:

  • Blow up as many balloons as you like. The more, the better, at least according to the kids.

  • Hang a tablecloth or sheet from the ceiling, leaving it slack enough to stuff the balloons inside.

  • Once all the balloons are in place, attach a string or cord that can pull the tablecloth or sheet open, letting the balloons fall.

If your kids are too excited to wait, hang the drop a little higher until the countdown.

When it is time, and the kids pull the balloons down, it is truly exciting and magical. Your arm may be tired from all the pumping, but it is definitely worth it!
